Privacy Policy
Local Ledger is a local-first and offline-enabled personal finance app. Your ledger is usable on your device and syncs through our hosted sync service when you are online so it can be available across your signed-in devices. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Who to contact
Local Ledger is the service name for this app. For privacy questions, account requests, or data requests, email privacy@local-ledger.app.
The app is launching worldwide as an invite-only waitlist first. We will update this page if the legal operator details change as the service grows.
Data we collect
If you join the waitlist, Clerk stores the email address you submit and manages the invitation flow.
If you create an account, Clerk handles authentication. Local Ledger stores the information needed to run your account, such as your user identity, ledger settings, accounts, transactions, budgets, recurring rules, goals, and shared-account membership.
We do not connect directly to your bank, and we do not sell your personal or financial data.
Local-first sync
Local Ledger is designed to keep core ledger workflows responsive and offline-enabled. When you are signed in and online, ledger data syncs through a hosted sync provider so changes can be backed up and reflected across your devices.
Because sync is part of the product, ledger data is not stored only on your device. It is also processed by our sync provider for your account.
AI features
On-device receipt reading uses local processing where available. Advanced image scanning and voice features send the relevant image, audio, transcript, or extracted receipt text to server-side AI processing so Local Ledger can return structured transaction suggestions.
AI output can be wrong. You should review and edit suggested transactions before saving them.
Service providers
Local Ledger uses established professional providers with security and compliance programs for hosting, authentication, waitlist and billing surfaces, payment processing, data sync, optional product analytics, and AI processing.
These providers process data for the purposes described here and under their own terms, privacy, and security commitments.
Cookie and analytics choices
Local Ledger uses essential browser storage and cookies for sign-in, security, session continuity, app preferences, offline support, and the waitlist flow.
PostHog analytics are optional. Analytics are off by default until you accept them in the banner. If you reject analytics, Local Ledger keeps non-essential PostHog capture and persistence off in this browser.
You can change your choice by clearing this site's browser storage and revisiting the app, or by contacting privacy@local-ledger.app for help.
Payments
Paid plans are managed through Clerk Billing, with Stripe providing payment processing. Local Ledger does not store full card numbers.
Billing providers may process payment details, invoices, subscription status, and related identifiers needed to complete purchases, prevent fraud, and comply with payment obligations.
Your choices and rights
You can request access, correction, export, or deletion of personal information by emailing privacy@local-ledger.app. Some records may need to be retained where required for security, billing, dispute, or legal reasons.
You are responsible for the information you enter into Local Ledger and for keeping your account credentials secure.
Changes
We may update this policy as Local Ledger changes. The "Last updated" date shows when the current version took effect.
